Depth
There are four areas of analysis which will be performed. The first will focus on the differences of time and cost between the existing buildings combination of steel, concrete and wood construction vs. steel and concrete structure. The Second area of analysis will delve into using modulation of the residential rooms due to their easily repeatable nature of the rooms on each floor. The Third analysis will compare the existing HVAC with an other higher performance system while focusing on the life cycle analysis of each to find how many years a more expansive system would take to save money for the owner. Finally I will be researching how automation could be introduced into the construction industry through automating prefabricated sections to be brought to the site.
Bredth
The Breadth topics will be integrated into the depth topics. The first will be combined with the structural analysis by choosing the correct sizes of steel and thicknesses of the slabs on deck to provide installation times and material and labor costs. The second breadth would entail choosing another appropriate system and defining how much energy would be required to properly heat or cool the spaces to the desires of the occupants.
